  • Overview

    VETS Inc is hiring for a full time Mid Level System Administrator (Unix) to support one of our Government Contracts at Scott AFB.

    Responsibilities

    This position will be responsible for performing complex systems engineering and administration tasks. Installs, maintains, and reviews system specifications, designs, and solutions with respect to Unix-based enterprise servers, both hardware and virtualized. Works as part of a project team in the integration of system engineering modifications or stand-alone solutions to engineering support requirements.

     

     

    Qualifications

    Required Skills:

    • 3 to 5 years of Unix/Linux Server system administration experience
    • Solid understanding of TCP/IP and Ethernet networking
    • Certified to work on military computer systems (DoD 8570.01-M)
    • Has strong inter-personal and communication skills: capable of training users in complex topics, making presentations to internal groups. Able to write intricate system and user documentation. Capable of writing and explaining purchase justifications.
    • Independent problem solving; self-directed, self-starting.
    • Very comfortable with most aspects of the Unix operating system: Solaris 10 administration experience, container/zone configuration and administration, paging/swapping, inter-process communication, devices and device driver fundamentals, file system concepts like inode and superblock.
    • Familiar with High Availability/clustering concepts and engineering
    • Familiar with fundamental networking/distributed computing environments and concepts. Can configure NFS and NIS, use nslookup or research to check information in the DNS.
    • Ability to write detailed scripts in at least one, preferably two administrative languages, (shell scripts, Perl, Tk).
    • Ability to perform most security audits, and protect the system against intrusion.
    • Active Security Clearance
    • Security + CE Certification

    Desired Skills:

    • Solaris 10/Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6/7 administration and troubleshooting
    • Active Directory, DHCP, and DNS
    • Postfix experience
    • Electronic file transfer experience
    • Active DoD Secret clearance or better
    • RSA experience
    • Netapp/Quantum/Other storage experience
    • Enterprise backup experience
    • Enterprise management software experience, such as Solarwinds or Nagios
    • Working knowledge of Vmware virtualization technologies
    • Amazon Web Services
