  • Overview

    The Software Quality Assurance Engineer will ensure the integrity, reliability and reproducibility of our internally and externally developed embedded software products for military systems from conception to release and have a hands-on role with the support of software for the Army’s current and future ground combat and tactical vehicles, weapons and support systems; and will require involvement in all stages of the development cycle.


    • Provides necessary definition, development and deployment of TARDECs software quality assurance strategy, addressing all phases of embedded software/product development.
    • Develops/executes quality assurance program plans.
    • Establishes process and product quality control tolerance ranges for compliance and acceptability/qualification.
    • Review requirements, specifications and technical design documents to provide timely and meaningful feedback.
    • Reviews, verifies and validates software & process change requests and authenticates code implementations.
    • Monitor every phase of the software development process so as to ensure design quality, making sure that the software adheres to the standards set by the agreement between the organization and customer.
    • Maintains product consistency throughout product cycle, to include the design, define and build phases through quality checkpoints.
    • Conduct functional & physical configuration audits for product acceptance/qualification/release
    • Ensure that software products work as intended prior to release to the customer.
    • Develops and manages quality assurance metrics.
    • Recommends and implements approved quality improvement processes.
    • Oversees and provides final approval of product testing efforts.
    • Involved in the entire software development lifecycle to include: software design, writing source code, control of source code, reviewing code, configuration management, change management, program testing, integration of software and release management processes.
    • Maintains quality assurance issue database and tracks items to closure.


    • Must have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in software or computer engineering field or computer science with course work related to software engineering.
    • Preferred Master of Software Engineering with course work related software quality assurance and release management.
    • Must have excellent problem solving, interpersonal communication and project management skills.
    • Secret Clearance



    Recommended Experience:

    • Experience with developing or modifying software quality assurance plans, policies, and procedures tailored to the complexity and scope of the developmental or operational system.
    • Experience with implementation and administration of Software Quality Assurance metrics, such as defect profiles and performance to entry/exit criteria.
    • Experience with Linux and/or QNX required, other embedded OS experience strongly desired - preferably command line and not just GUI desktop usage.
    • Experience with software industry best practices like Capability Maturity Model Integrated at least level 3 standards


    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of implementing the software quality assurance discipline for the entire life cycle of systems from initial requirements and capabilities baselines to system end-of-life.
    • Knowledge of Lean/Six-Sigma principles and practices.
    • Knowledge of software engineering and lifecycle management standards, regulations, processes and best practices.
    • Skill in defining, implementing and executing software quality best practices and procedures to design, influence, and drive quality and testing of our software.
    • Ability to apply concepts and define and implement software quality assurance processes and procedures.
    • Ability to inspire team confidence and respect while motivating team members in a creative and effective manner.
    • Ability to review functional and technical documentation from requirements.
    • Ability to review source code against chosen coding standards.
