This individual will be working in the midst of streamlining government spending while increasing functionality and capabilities of the US Military through the use of leading technology methods and techniques, to include cloud computing.   The challenge of migrating existing customers’ Solaris-based operating systems to Red Hat Enterprise Linux or into the Amazon Web Service (AWS) Military Cloud will result in millions of dollars in savings and greater efficiencies to the forces defending our country.

Describe the responsibilities of the position (what will the employee be doing):

This position will be responsible for performing complex systems administrations tasks serving both the Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC) and the United States Transportation Command (USTC).  The employee will work to build new systems and implement fix actions on existing infrastructure. Works as part of a project team to support a dynamic, medium/large scale enterprise environment.

•  This position will be responsible for performing database management on Red Hat, Solaris, and Oracle database platforms.
• The individual will work as part of a project team in the maintenance and operation of databases supporting multiple activities within USTC’s Centralized Enclave
• The individual will support implementation and integration of new DB releases
• The individual will perform Operations and Maintenance (O&M) support to prevent failures and to perform routine and ad hoc repairs to ensure normal degradation experienced by users will not keep it from proper working order.
• The individual will support major enhancements in response to application upgrades, enhance capabilities, performance tuning and query optimization.
• The individual will participate in technical collaboration with the government staff and other contractors to support program objectives, to include moving existing databases to AWS.
• The individual will engage in knowledge transfer to the government
• The individual will execute on the collection of requirements, product comparisons, product research, and architecture
• The individual will create and execute test plans to meet project requirements for assigned components
• The individual will support team efforts to migrate additional applications and technologies into the hosted environment
• The individual will participate in vendor evaluation and testing of proposed solutions
• The individual will provide: Level 2/3 technical system expertise; oversight and accountability for resolution of outages; service level issues; and user/customer support needs
• The individual will resolve performance and operational issues with a multitude of customers

 

 

Required Skills:

• Possesses 3-5 years’ experience that includes 1 year in a specialized area. Specialized experience includes: demonstrated experience with DBMS design and system analysis, current operating systems and data manipulation languages. Provides database administration and troubleshooting. Detailed experience utilizing Oracle and/or Microsoft SQL
• Experience with Oracle RMAN backup and restore process, GoldenGate replication, RAC, ASM, Oracle patching and upgrade process (11g and 12c), and Enterprise Manager/Cloud Control.
• Proven Tier 2/3 Customer Support
• Strong inter-personal and communication skills: capable of training users in complex topics, able to follow provided Operating procedures
• Comprehension of common network concepts: VLANs, Switching, OSI layers, IP addressing
• Capable of diagnosing system hardware issues
• Proven troubleshooting skills including independent problem solving; self-directed, self-starting.
• Familiar with high availability/clustering concepts and engineering
• Familiar with fundamental networking/distributed computing environments and concepts.
• Ability to perform security audits and remediate vulnerabilities to protect the systems against intrusion.
• Certified to work on military computer systems (DoD 8570.01-M)
• Experience using a ticketing system, and able to assign tickets based on troubleshooting

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Science, or other related analytical, scientific, or technical disciplines. 6 years of specialized experience may be substituted for a 4-year college degree.

 

 

Required Certs:

Security+ CE and a computing environment certification. For example: Oracle Certified Associate – Oracle Solaris 10 OS; Unix or Linux essentials; Oracle Solaris 10 or 11 Zones Administration
